HOTSTAMPING AND BLINDEMBOSSING EXPLAINED
Hotstamping
This imprint process uses a machine that applies heat and pressure to a material surface through a metallic engraved plate. The ink used in hot stamping is a roll of dry ink. The engraved plate is heated and then forced down against the material with the dry ink sandwiched in between. The heated raised images of the plate are pressed against the dry ink and onto the material. Only the dry ink that has come in contact with the raised images is applied to the material surface. Thus the black parts of the logo artwork will be imprinted while the white part of the artwork will not be imprinted with the colour foil. The roll of dry ink or foil comes in different colours such as gold, silver, etc.
This process is very similar to hotstamping except the foil used does not have any colour or no foil is used at all. The transfered image is formed with the material colour. Whether a logo is debossed or embossed during the blindembossing process depends on the logo artwork. The die maker requires a black and white artwork of the logo to be submitted before making the hotstamping/blindembossing die.
Blindembossing
Let us assume the example of the artwork to be submitted is ABC in solid black.
The solid "black" parts of the artwork will sink in ie deboss during the blindembossing process. The whole logo is thus debossed.
The "white" parts will raise up while "black" parts will sink in during the blindembossing process. Since the white parts are dominant, the whole logo display a embossed look.
Therefore, whether a particular logo (or certain parts of the logo), will be embossed or debossed depends each individual logo artwork.
Embossing
Debossing
Let us assume the example of the artwork to be submitted is ABC in black outline.
Let us assume the example of the artwork to be submitted is ABC International.
Embossing and Debossing
The "white" parts will raise up while "black" parts will sink in during the blindembossing process. Since the white parts and black parts are more or less even, the logo will have a combination of debossed and embossed look.
